Coloradans are pretty adaptable. We know how to dress for the ever-changing weather, we carry water bottles like timeless accessories, and we can spot a hailstorm from several miles away (not a second too soon—the 4Runner was parked outside).
But one thing we didn’t see coming was record-breaking rainfall. This summer has turned Greeley into a desert oasis, green and lush, and… yes, I’m pretty sure that’s… humidity. Weird.
We’ve had a glorious wildflower season and pleasant temperatures. The only problem is that we’re not used to hiking, biking, camping, or otherwise Colorado-ing in a downpour. I think we’re starting to figure it out, but heck if we weren’t promised 300 days of sunshine this year.
To keep our adaptability game strong, my family has had to find some indoorsy ways to make the most of summer in Greeley. And in our experience, nothing brightens up a rainy day like ice cream.
If you’re a Greeley native, then you’ve definitely heard your neighbors rave about Jenny’s Malt Shop & Diner. It’s been family owned and operated for 25 years, and to say they’ve honed their craft would be an understatement. If you’re looking for the best ice cream in the city, this is it.
Jenny’s features 12 flavors of hard scoop ice cream and over 100 flavors of shave ice, malts, and shakes. Over 100. That means you could try a different flavor every day this summer and still experience something new on your next visit. With options like Fuzzy Navel, Rockin Raspberry Lemonade, and Icky Pickle, there’s something here to please every palate.
One of my favorite combinations is shave ice with ice cream. They call it a Volcano. I mean, is there a better way to combat the rainy-day blues? I think not.
Plus, if you hit Jenny’s for a full meal, you’ll be treated to excellent diner food. They have nachos, pretzels, hot dogs, burgers, and even churros. Combine that with the retro music and décor, and you have yourself a mainstay in the community.
Just to be clear, this is not an ad (though if someone from Jenny’s is reading this, let’s talk. Maybe there’s a world where we trade advertising for Volcanos). As a long-time resident and realtor, I’ve learned what makes Greeley tick, and I want to highlight Jenny’s for keeping us in ice cream this rainy summer. They’re the real MVPs.
