If you’re like me, you don’t have just one “sweet tooth.” You have a whole mouth full of teeth chanting, “Ice cream! Cake! Cookies!”
And yeah, I believe in moderation, but it’s nice to have some go-to options available when I’m in the mood for a treat.
One of many things I love about living and working in Greeley is that there are always plenty of sweets to go around. Our local businesses offer a variety of snackables, drinks, and desserts to satisfy even the pickiest eaters. (I don’t understand people who don’t crave a treat now and then, but… they do exist. And they have very high standards.)
When I’m feeling snacky, I head to Mom’s Popcorn, where they take a pantry staple to a whole new level. As soon as you walk in the door, you’re hit with the tantalizing aroma of fresh popcorn — and a wall of flavors so eclectic that you’ll need an hour just to browse. (Pro tip: take advantage of the free samples!)
Some of my favorites include Caramel Apple, Cherry Mash, and Raspberry White Chocolate (because, again, I’m here for the sweets). But Mom’s Popcorn also offers tons of savory, spicy, and seasonal options, including Dill Pickle, which is a hit at my office.
Prefer to drink your sweets? Greeley has you covered there, too. Another one of my favorite local places is Bougie Boba Tea Bar, and their bubble tea is *perfection.*
If you’ve never tried it, boba tea is a chilled milk tea with tapioca beads that you sip through a wide straw. It debuted in Taiwan in the late ‘80s and is now popular in cities all over the United States. There are a handful of restaurants in Greeley that serve it, but Bougie Boba Tea Bar specializes in it, so it’s totally worth a visit. Order a traditional boba tea, try their flavored “jellies,” or experience the magic of bursting boba. (Fair warning, though: it’s kind of addictive.)
Now, if you’re looking for a tried-and-true Greeley favorite, you can’t do better than Jenny’s Malt Shop and Diner. They’ve been around for over 25 years, serving up nostalgia in the form of burgers, fries, and chocolate malts. They also have ice cream, shakes, and over 100 shaved ice flavors. (For perspective, that means you could try a different flavor every day this summer without hitting the bottom of the list. I know — insane.)
My #1 recommendation is a Jenny’s volcano, which is simply vanilla ice cream over shaved ice. It’s unbeatable. But if you’re in the mood for something warm, go for the funnel cakes or churros. (It’s like being at the Greeley Stampede!)
Of course, this list wouldn’t be complete without the ultimate form of sweet treat: the humble cookie. Whether soft and chewy or crispy and crunchy, cookies are every sweet tooth’s kryptonite. (Or at least, this is true of me.)
Here in Greeley, we have a fantastic new place called Insomnia Cookies. It stays open well into the night (currently 1 AM on weekdays and 3 AM on weekends), and they deliver… so bring on those late-night cravings.
Insomnia Cookies offers classic favorites like sugar and chocolate chunk, but they also have unique flavors like PB&J and French Toast (plus gluten-free and vegan options). And it doesn’t get much better than warm cookies with milk, so be sure to grab a bottle while you’re there — unless you decide to order a scoop or two of their premium ice cream instead.
I’m definitely biased, but I think Greeley is the place to be for those of us who appreciate a good treat. No matter what you’re in the mood for, you can find it at one of our local spots. Bring your sweet tooth and enjoy!
